Alaffia Health Welcomes Chien Kuo as VP of Engineering and Li Zhang as Head of AI

New York, September 5, 2024 – Alaffia Health, the leader in generative AI solutions for healthcare payer operations, today announced the appointment of Chien Kuo as its Vice President of Engineering and Li Zhang, PhD, as its Head of Artificial Intelligence. Both Kuo and Zhang bring extensive experience in healthcare technology and artificial intelligence, reinforcing Alaffia’s commitment to building state-of-the-art AI tools for health plan clinical claims teams.

Chien Kuo joins Alaffia Health after serving in engineering leadership at Oscar Health, where he led globally distributed engineering teams across digital member experience and telehealth products. In his new role, Kuo will spearhead the technical strategy for Alaffia’s expanding AI capabilities and ensure the continued development of transformative products for the health plan ecosystem.

“The administrative demands in healthcare often complicate the mission of providing affordable and high-quality care to patients,” said Chien Kuo. “Alaffia Health’s advanced AI solutions are transforming the way health plans issue payments to providers, ensuring accurate and timely reimbursements. By streamlining these processes, Alaffia is poised to save billions from the healthcare system, and I’m incredibly excited to join them on their journey.”

Li Zhang, PhD, will serve as Head of Artificial Intelligence. Zhang brings deep expertise in AI-driven medical imaging and pathology detection, having previously served as a senior research scientist at Siemens, where she pioneered AI tools for cancer detection and clinical workflows. At Alaffia, Zhang will focus on advancing the company’s flagship generative AI product, Ask Autodor, an AI assistant built for health plan claims teams.

“I'm thrilled to join this innovative team to further develop Ask Autodor and its capabilities. I envision a future where AI agents can work alongside human clinicians to retrieve relevant information from unstructured claims data, build a holistic knowledge base from various sources of clinical guidelines, and expedite medical claim payments,” said Li Zhang. “I'm confident that Ask Autodor will substantially reduce healthcare costs, ensure adherence to regulations, and deliver substantial benefits to the broader ecosystem.”

TJ Ademiluyi, CEO and co-founder of Alaffia Health, expressed his enthusiasm about the strategic hires: “We’re very excited to have Chien and Li join Alaffia at such a pivotal moment in our journey. Their expertise in tech and AI will be instrumental in driving our mission to streamline operational workflows for claims teams at health plans. Together, they'll help us enhance our suite of generative AI tools and eliminate unnecessary costs across the system.”

Alaffia Health continues to grow rapidly following its recent $10M Series A funding round announced earlier this year. The company plans to continue to invest in research and development for its advanced AI solutions, including Ask Autodor.
